By ignoring it you can give yourself a good extra week to build up your defenses before the mission expires (results are the same as if you actually did it).One really fast running solider with two Dynamite in their backpack can wipe out any hyperspace gate single-handedly.

Banzai.Turtle drones are good for removing minefiels. Just send them right into them. Repair drone later. Much easier than trying to deactivate a dozen different mines one by one.Samantha is your best solider. Make her fast and (eventually) give her a martian sword and a cloak later and she'll turn into samurai death. Sven is a heavy weapons natural.
Rita makes a decent sniper. Fill the rest of your slots with armored gatling drones to act as sponges.To easily beat the alien attack on your base, fill your UFO with contact mines. Have everyone load up on mine and plant them everywhere. Restock at the UFO as needed. Enemies will all eventually blow themselves up.Rollers are always your priority one target, followed by Alchemists. Rollers can kill any human in contact range in seconds. Alchemists all have grenade launchers.Your own grenade launchers are good for removing Boss worms from their blind side.
Effective GL use: Don't fire one shot and wait to see what happens. Empty the magazine with a mortar-style spread of grenades to saturate the entire area.More tips later if I get bored.
