A rarity that! I will say though that it didn’t strike an emotional level with me as say Dear Esther did, nor intrigue like Trauma. I certainly found it more interesting and invigorating that Dinner Date however!PositivesExcellent use of jump cuts and film making camera techniquesGenuine tongue in cheek humour goes down wellNegativesOverpriced for the experience it providesConclusionEssentially a ten minute tech demo/story hybrid that’s trying to show new ways of borrowing from the film industry to improve games. Thirty flights of loving demo.

The Sims 3: World Adventures«»The stars of the IGN Strategy Guide for The Sims 3, the Schultzes, have been resting comfortably since we last left them. Well, almost comfortably. Our initial stars, Seth and Holly, passed on after bearing five children. Two of those children still live in the same house: Shannon, the evil criminal mastermind, and Fiona, the lovely doctor who has just recently married Al Guerra.

Fiona—Fi for short—is pregnant, and the house is quite happy to receive a fourth mouth to feed. Here is the happy trio.!Uh. Okay, not so happy. Not only does Shannon have a horse-face that rivals Sarah Jessica Parker, she is clearly displeased with the cuddle-happy couple. Shannon needs to get away from these people. And luckily, a new travel agent has opened up in IGN Guide Town!

There are three countries she can visit: China, Egypt, and France. Flying the Friendly SkiesEach country has its own focus. China is the land of legends and martial arts, a place of peace and understanding. China is the destination for Sims who want to have a fairly relaxing time. Egypt is more for the adventurous soul, as it contains the most secrets and most loot.

France focuses on the finer arts, being a perfect environment for photography, painting, and even writing!Shannon thinks about her choices, though it takes her only a nanosecond to decide on Egypt: after all, my little kleptomaniac just can't ever have enough stuff. She hops up from her ugly couch, clicks the wardrobe in her bedroom, and changes her outfit into something more appropriate for spelunking in a desert. All right, she's dressed for success! Now she needs to speak to the travel agent.

She clicks a phone, selects the new 'Travel' option, and she is presented with this screen. The top-left corner here has selector buttons for the three countries Shannon can visit. She selects the middle one, Egypt, and gets a description just below. Below the description is a slider allowing her to select how many days she wants to be on vacation. But it's locked! Sims now have a new experience bar of sorts called the 'Visa Level,' and everyone starts off at Visa Level 0. The higher this level, the longer the Sim can stay away.

Visa Levels are per-country, so it's entirely possible to have a Sim at Visa Level 3 at China and Visa Level 2 at France simultaneously. How does one raise Visa Level, you ask? We'll get to that in a moment.Notice below the vacation length slider is an area where Shannon can take travel companions. To qualify as a travel companion, the Sim must live with the traveler.

That means Shannon's only options here are Fiona or Al; even though she is friends with Denver Keaton (a fellow criminal), he isn't allowed to travel with her, even if she invites him over first. Shannon's whole purpose of leaving is to get away from these two lovebirds who make her ill, so she decides to head to Egypt alone. One loading screen later, she arrives at the Base Camp. Each country has a Base Camp that serves as the Sim's home for the duration of their vacation, though 'Base Camp' is a bit of a misnomer for China and France: Base Camps are basically hotels and don't really serve any purpose other than for sleeping or showering. This is fine though: who wants to spend their whole vacation in a hotel?Shannon arrives at the Base Camp—which in Egypt actually is a camp—and stands near a glowing corkboard. She sees a few fliers on it, and moves over to investigate with a 'Check For Adventures!' Turns out a company wants a few relics from Egypt to consolidate their position.

The flier promises riches to any Sim who decides to help out. Shannon can't resist that, and accepts the adventure. Now, above the little area on the interface that generally lists buffs and debuffs is a small window listing the next step of the adventure, as well as a book icon. You can click the book icon to check out the Sim's adventure journal, which tracks the current quest as well as miscellaneous statistics and other information. In this case, Shannon's little window actually has a button marked 'Report In.'

We click this, and she automatically gets the order to speak to the appropriate Sim to advance the story.Shannon automatically finds her target, Nabila, in the fastest possible manner, which in this case includes a quick trip on a little scooter. After talking to Nabila, she passes the quest, earning herself Visa Points. These are like prototypical experience points in a role-playing game, and eventually will lead her to a higher Visa Level. We'll worry about that later, though.
