Chariot race drawings. If you've played games like Dragons of Atlantis or Ages of Camelot, you'll know what to expect from. It's a similar strategy game, but in a science fiction setting.Made by, a specialist free online browser game company, is one of the most popular games on Facebook with around 2.5 million players, and there are versions in different languages including Spanish, French and German. Why+Galaxy+Online+II+Doesn't+Suck There's an incredible amount of depth to the gameplay and even though, like many Facebook games, you'll be spending a lot of your time sitting around waiting for stuff to happen, it's strangely addictive.
It's the perfect game for those of us who enjoy fantasy-themed strategy Facebook games like Dragons of Atlantis, but really want to play something that has spaceships in it. How+Does+it+Play? There are two different gameplay parts.
Your first task is to build up your home base – you'll need to install and upgrade different types of buildings to bring in materials and gold, as well as create your ships, research new technology and recruit your commanders. Doing all these actions takes time.
At the beginning of the game, it takes mere seconds – to build a level one housing estate (which brings in gold) for instance, takes about 10 seconds. You can only have a maximum of 12 houses, however, so you're going to need to upgrade those buildings so they bring in increasingly more gold - a process which takes progressively more time the higher the level. This results in a lot of waiting; it takes hours to upgrade a single building in the later game (to go from level 11 to level 12 takes over five hours). The other major part to the gameplay is the battle system. You take the ships you've painstakingly designed and built, the commanders you've recruited and weapons you've researched and go forth to (hopefully) kick some ass. There are various scripted instance battles you can play through, and you can attack other players, too. Successful battles reap you reward items.
Galaxy Online II has chosen to go the route increasingly more Facebook games are going. Instead of making you spam your Facebook friends for help in-game, you have a separate in-game Friends system exclusively for Galaxy Online II. That means that most people will be happy to accept your friend requests and building a network is easy, since they're only friending you in game and you won't show up (or be able to access) their Facebook profile.
There's an active chat window where you can buy and sell items, find friends to add and swap hints and tips. To speak in global chat, you'll need a Loudspeaker item, gained from progressing through the levels and completing quests, which helps it stay relatively spam-free. There's also a Corps (clan) system, along with an in-game messaging, so you can message your buddies, an auction house and rankings. What's+the+Payment+Structure+Like? You can buy all kinds of goodies for real-life money, like packs of in-game gold and minerals, as well as items that boost the production of these and add extra construction slots for a limited amount of time. There are also blueprints for cool weapons and structures, extra Loudspeakers to speak in Global Chat, gems to boost your Commanders' skills and truce cards which give you immunity from attack for 12 hours. You can buy in-game money in various batches, ranging from 100 Mall Points ($3.30) to the frankly ridiculous 'best value' 21000 ($499.90).
To give you an idea of what you can get for that, a Construction Card, which gives you an extra three slots to build and upgrade at once for 72 hours, costs 24 Mall Points, and 30,000 units of Gold costs 5. Other items are available to buy with medals, badges and vouchers, which are gained from completing matches, instances and are harvested from your space station. These items tend to cost a lot, however.
For example a high end weapon like the BloodyMary ballistic weapon costs an eye-watering 6936 medals. What+Are+the+Downfalls? The biggest downfall is probably the steep learning curve. There is a tutorial which helps somewhat, but the sheer amount of information and all the different things you have to do is still difficult to take in. Of course, that's one of the plus points for the game as well - that it's so incredibly complex and crammed full of little details. The control panel could do with a revamp as it's sometimes hard to figure out how to do something. For example, it took me a really long time to realise that to fight in an instance, I had to single-click on my space station and find the option in a menu – a button down with the rest of the icons to 'fight' would make much more sense.
